School of Heavy Equipment and Operators

Certificate Programs

Heavy equipment training can introduce you to a big world of satisfying opportunities. Here's why: The tradesmen and women who work with large mobile machinery contribute greatly to making the way we live possible.
Heavy-duty vehicles and machines play a huge role in creating, maintaining, and delivering almost every basic thing we rely on today. Without them, we'd have far fewer roads, bridges, buildings, and airports. We'd have a smaller selection of food in the grocery store. And we'd have a lot fewer stores, period. Even the energy we use to light our homes and drive our cars would be scant or non-existent.

Drilling Machine

Drilling is the operation of producing circular hole in the work-piece by using a rotating cutter called DRILL. The machine used for drilling is called drilling machine. The drilling operation can also be accomplished in lathe, in which the drill is held in tailstock and the work is held by the chuck.
Duration: 2 weeks

Forklift

Operate powered industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas, machines and loading docks, into railroad cars or trucks or storage facilities.
Duration: 7 days

TLB

A backhoe loader, also called a loader backhoe, digger in layman's terms, or colloquially shortened to backhoe within the industry, is a heavy equipment vehicle that consists of a tractor like unit fitted with a loader-style shovel/bucket on the front and a backhoe on the back.
Duration: 3 weeks

Excavator

An excavator is a useful machine that is utilized in the construction industry, and other useful applications. It consists of an undercarriage that has wheels or tracks for the provision of mobility.
Duration: 3 weeks

Grader

A grader, also commonly referred to as a road grader or a motor grader, is a construction machine with a long blade used to create a flat surface during the grading process
Duration: 1 month

Dump Truck

A dump truck (also known as a dumper/tipper truck) is a truck used for transporting loose material (such as sand, gravel, or demolition waste) for construction.
Duration: 3 weeks

Mobile Crane

A mobile crane is a cable-controlled crane mounted on crawlers or rubber-tired carriers or a hydraulic-powered crane with a telescoping boom mounted on truck-type carriers or as self-propelled models.
Duration: 3 weeks

Roller

A road roller (sometimes called a roller-compactor, or just roller) is a compactor type engineering vehicle used to compact soil, gravel, concrete, or asphalt in the construction of roads and foundations.
Duration: 2 weeks

Skid Steer

Skid-steer loaders are typically four-wheel vehicles with the wheels mechanically locked in synchronization on each side, and where the left-side drive wheels can be driven independently of the right-side drive wheels. The wheels typically have no separate steering mechanism and hold a fixed straight alignment on the body of the machine. By operating the left and right wheel pairs at different speeds, the machine turns by skidding, or dragging its fixed-orientation wheels across the ground.
Duration: 3 Weeks

Bulldozer

A bulldozer is a crawler (continuous tracked tractor) equipped with a substantial metal plate (known as a blade) used to push large quantities of soil, sand, rubble, or other such material during construction or conversion work and typically equipped at the rear with a claw-like device (known as a ripper) to loosen densely compacted materials. Bulldozers can be found on a wide range of sites, mines and quarries, military bases, heavy industry factories, engineering projects and farms.
Duration: 3 Weeks

Front Loader

A loader is a heavy equipment machine used in construction to move aside or load materials such as asphalt, demolition debris, dirt, snow, feed, gravel, logs, raw minerals, recycled material, rock, sand, woodchips, etc. into or onto another type of machinery (such as a dump truck, conveyor belt, feed-hopper, or railroad car). There are many types of loader, which, depending on design and application, are called by various names, including bucket loader, front loader, front-end loader, payloader, scoop, shovel, skip loader, wheel loader, or skid-steer.
Duration: 3 weeks

LHD (Scoop)

LHD loaders are similar to conventional front-end loaders but developed for the toughest of hard rock mining applications, with overall production economy, safety and reliability in mind. They are extremely rugged, highly maneuverable and exceptionally productive. More than 75% of world's underground metal mines use LHD for handling the muck of their excavations.
Duration: 3 Weeks

Weighbridge Operation and Maintenance

This involves acquiring the skills and knowledge required to conduct weighbridge operations in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures, including setting up for weighbridge operations, weighing loaded vehicles, weighing unloaded vehicles, finalizing weighbridge operations, and completing required records and documentation. Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements are applicable to this unit.
